The GIER Equipment Inquiry Mobile Version gives public users a third option to obtain this valuable information at a moment’s notice and is available 24/7.
Smartphone users can now visit www.gierregistry.com/mobile or if using a mobile device and going to the GIER website, our system will automatically detect this and reroute the user to the mobile application for GIER, which will allow users to search equipment by Chassis ID or License Plate/State.

CALVERTON, MD, March 13, 2012 — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently added the ability for Intermodal Equipment Providers (IEPs) to access their inspection data online through the FMCSA Web Portal. Before IEPs can access this date they are required to request a personal identification number (PIN) and sign up for a Portal Account. Important Notice — GIER Compliance with 5th Marking Option under FMCSA Roadability Regulations
CALVERTON, MD, JANUARY 16, 2011 — It has come to our attention that some state enforcement personnel are issuing citations to Intermodal Equipment Providers (IEPs) for regulatory violations of the equipment marking requirement under Section 390.21 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) even though the IEPs have registered their equipment in the Global Intermodal Equipment Registry (GIER). Registration of intermodal equipment in the GIER database meets the 5th marking option under Section 390.21 for regulatory compliance.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) issued a bulletin on Jan. 14, 2011, to enforcement personnel providing guidelines for use of GIER as the 5th marking option. Click here to download a copy of the CVSA Inspection Bulletin.
Should any IEP that currently has equipment registered in GIER receive a citation for violation of the equipment marking requirement, please forward a copy of the citation to our Information Services Help Desk. Upon receipt we will confirm that the chassis cited was registered in GIER on the date of the citation and notify the proper authorities of the "error". This information should be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attention Motor Carriers, IEPs, M&R vendors and Facility Operators
CALVERTON, MD, May 27, 2011 — As follow-up to the IANA notice dated Aug. 9, 2010, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced in the May 20, 2011, Federal Register that it would extend the compliance date, with respect to the No Defect Driver Vehicle Inspection report (DVIR) submission requirement, outlined in section 390.42 (b), until June 30, 2012.
The FMCSA said this action is being taken to provide the agency with sufficient time to address, through a Notice-and-Comment Rulemaking Proceeding, a petition to rescind the requirement for no-defect DVIRs..

CALVERTON, MD, January 13, 2011—December 17, 2010 marked the compliance date of the final Roadability regulations (Docket No. FMCSA-2005-23315), that requires that all intermodal equipment must be marked with a US DOT number, as required by Section 390.21 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs). The regulation identifies five options that Intermodal Equipment Providers (IEPs) may use to comply with the regulation. IEPs are encouraged to register their intermodal equipment in the GIER database as this meets the fifth option for regulatory compliance under Section 390.21 as it relates to the equipment marking requirement. GIER provides an easy and efficient electronic alternative to physical equipment marking. CALVERTON, MD, June 7, 2010 — The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) announced today that it has launched the IANA Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) Processing System. The system assists motor carriers, intermodal equipment providers (IEPs), facility operators, and maintenance & repair vendors with regulatory compliance and identification of defective equipment.

CALVERTON, MD, January 20, 2010 — On December 18, 2009, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced the release of several technical amendments and responses to petitions to the final roadability rule. Importantly, the deadline for formal submission of Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (396.11 & 396.12) and Driver Vehicle Examination Reports (396.9) has been extended until June 30, 2010. All other provisions of the December 17, 2009, compliance date will remain unchanged.

The IANA Board of Directors, for any given calendar year, will determine the fee level. For 2013, the annual GIER registration fees will be:
